Uncommon Connections: Navigating Social Waters and Personal Evolution During the Holidays

In this podcast episode, I marked my 202nd day of sobriety, which was a personal win. My wife and I attended a Christmas party at a local restaurant, stepping out of our usual routine. The food was decent, but the venue's acoustics made conversation difficult.

I realized I had little in common with most attendees, even those I knew. This led to some introspection about how my interests differ from the typical Southern culture and how that affects my social interactions. My wife and I often feel like the "black sheep" due to our beliefs and lifestyle choices.

Reflecting on past friendships that have faded and changes in my work environment, I recognized the difficulty in finding like-minded individuals. While my independent work offers freedom, it limits my interactions with colleagues.

The event made me realize how much I've changed over the years and how my social circle has evolved. I appreciated the invitation but doubted whether similar events would align with my interests. Despite the disconnect, I appreciated the effort and enjoyed the experience, even though it left me a bit down afterward.

With the holidays approaching, I wished everyone well and signed off, hoping for a safe and joyful season for all.
